Welcome to the front porch again! So glad you came to sit with us today. I am happy to introduce to you my friend Vickie Henderson who has been such and encouragement to me over the last few months. She is a sister in the Compel community and I relate so much to a lot of her story and can not wait for her book to come out! I encourage you to check out her wonderful blog as well as her weekly radio broadcast. I know you will be blessed just as I have been. Meet Vickie . . .
What is your book about?
My active life as a physician and avid cyclist came to a screeching halt when I developed a rare neuromuscular disease. God clearly showed me the blessing of Sabbath rest. I experienced a personal Jubilee as outlined in the 25th chapter of Leviticus. The title of the book is Intermission which is one of the Hebrew definitions of Sabbath.
How long did it take you to write the book?
I should be finished with final edits in a couple of months. 1 ½ years.
What was your favorite chapter or part of the book to write and why?
The first chapter describes the sudden inability to move my hands while I was performing surgery.
What was your biggest challenge or hurdle in writing and publishing your book?
Part of the book focuses on forgiveness as I was betrayed by my doctors. It was hard to be honest and uplifting to encourage others to forgive.
What is the one thing you hope your readers will walk away with after reading your book?
Adversity brings blessings.
If you could go back through the writing, publishing, and marketing experience would you do anything differently?

What other writers/books inspire you?
It would be hard to narrow down. I read a lot.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Probably around age 9. This is a big part of my testimony and how God used my illness to give me the true desire of my heart.
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I still like to ride my bicycle when I am able. I enjoy speaking.
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
A writer. But I ended up going to medical school.
